



John Mackenzie was born in 1856 in Sconser on the Isle of Skye, in fact on the very spot Mackenzies Peak self-catering apartment stands on today. Being born so close to the Cuillin Mountain range it wasn’t long before the young John started to explore, eventually conquering Sgurr nan Gilleon at the tender age of 10! John Mackenzie became a professional guide before long and was the first Scot to do so. For over 50 years John Mackenzie worked as a guide and now has a Cuillin peak named after him, Sgurr Mhic Counnich or Mackenzies Peak. After a lifetime on the mountains, John Mackenzie died in 1933 leaving the legacy of Mackenzies Peak for all to enjoy.
With the famous Cuillin Mountains as a backdrop, this beautiful holiday property stands in a superb elevated position with magnificent views across the sea to the Isle of Raasay. Mackenzies Peak is situated in the village of Sconser on the shores of Loch Sligachan at the foot of the Cuillin mountain range.

The Cuillin mountain range 'An Cuilthearn' are located on the Isle of Skye. There are two ranges, the Black Cuillin and the Red Cuillin, the Black Cuillin being the highest. The highest point on the range is Sgurr Alasdair at 3,255ft. Legend has it that the Cuillins got their name from the legendary warrior Chuchulain.
